BACKGROUND:

Yelp has been one of the most used mobile apps for users searching for local businesses. Yelp not only focuses on enhancing usability from the consumers, but also publicizing small businesses through ads and reviews. They hope to develop features to satisfy both users and business.

GOAL:

The goal is to enhance usability and functionality by pin pointing users' needs and analyzing which features users tend to utilize the most.

SCOPE AND FOCUS:

Yelp is a well trusted mobile app that provides a one-stop local platform for consumers to discover, connect and transact with local businesses of all sizes by making it easy to request a quote, join a waitlist or make a reservation, and make an appointment or purchase. Main features of yelp are custom search filters for services, themed ads, custom reviews, and so forth.

Applications overall have similar features like customer review, business information, and appoinment option. However, they all lack in validation regarding the reviews shown because it is difficult for the users and the businesses to check whether the review was written based on a true story. Also, most applications have very limited features, since they tend to focus on introducing bussiness more than enhancing usability through creating features that allows users to utilize the app more than simply looking up recommended businesses.
